The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems (CSBS) at Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology empowers students to become technology innovators, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and socially responsible professionals. Designed to address the evolving needs of the digital economy, the programme integrates the foundations of computer science with business systems, emerging technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Going beyond conventional classroom learning, the department fosters a vibrant ecosystem of experiential learning, startup development, innovation, and real-world problem-solving. Students are encouraged to transform ideas into impactful solutions through industry-oriented projects, hackathons, design-thinking initiatives, startup incubation, and interdisciplinary collaborations. By nurturing student-led ventures and entrepreneurial initiatives, the department provides opportunities for learners to explore the journey from ideation and prototyping to product development and business execution.

The curriculum provides exposure to emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, and the Internet of Things, while strengthening students’ understanding of business processes, management principles, communication, and ethical decision-making. Through societal projects and community-oriented initiatives, students also learn to apply technology to address real-world challenges and create meaningful social impact.

The role of Computer Science and Business System Engineers

• Design and develop software application for different industries
• Manages the software, hardware & networks in any industry
• Involves in the design and development of the hardware components of PCs & laptops
• Develop software for peripheral computing devices such as printers, modems and scanners
• Writes code and algorithms for operating systems like Windows, Linux etc.
• Develop the process and software for both domestic and industrial automation

Computer Science and Business System Engineers can work in a wide range of fields like

• In Government for Engineering services, Remote sensing, E-Governance, etc.
• In PSU’s like EDP officers in Banking sectors, Railways, Airport Authorities of India, ONGC and Petroleum Corporations, etc.
• In Core Sectors like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Virtusa, IBM, Cognizant Technologies, Zoho Corporation, Vodafone, Rapid-I, Revature, etc.
• In Private Sectors as Business Development Associates, Content Development Manager, Financial Advisor and Consultant, etc.

It also provides the opportunities and eligibility to write UPSC – IES (Indian Engineering Services).
